This new expansion adds a ton of content, including new Scenarios (including a 2-player Scenario!), a new Lair mechanic that gives asymmetric abilities and actions, many more cards, and an upgraded First Player Marker.

Vigilante: Hidden Motives is all about player interaction and includes a variety of new Mercenaries, Heroes, and Agency cards to keep the game fresh. Check out the rulebook here. June Update: Hidden Motives, CATNIP Auction House, and Ice Cream?
10 months ago – Tue, Jun 27, 2023 at 02:35:53 PM

Happy Summer Vigilante and Mercenaries!

We have a few updates for you today on Vigilante: Hidden Motives, CATNIP: Auction House, and a quick design diary to talk through what you can expect from us!

Vigilante: Hidden Motives and the Vigilante reprint will go live on Kickstarter on September 5th, 2023. We've delayed it a bit, to give some time to build up more of an audience and get some of the other details in order. Plus, we'll be planning a local event which may include free ice cream (stay tuned)!

Instead of stretch goals, we will be doing a Kickstarter Promo Pack this time around, revealing new promos throughout the campaign. We're pleased to show off one of the new Mercenaries; idea by Alex M., and illustrated by the incredibly talented JP Kegle:

Jenders' Gaming has done a great overview of what you can expect from Hidden Motives, and more:

So what's left?

  • Additional preview videos
  • Finalizing Canadian/U.S. fulfillment
  • Marketing, marketing, marketing!

CATNIP Auction House is now available! This is a 3-10 player bidding game that plays in less than 30 minutes where you play as cats collecting luxurious cat items. Check it out here!

Critter Quest (I *still* need a better name) has come a long way and after some great play-testing at Origins, I'm confident that it's already really good. With the new changes, this will be a deckbuilder to watch out for!

Crime Scene Confusion is another social deduction game I'm working on for the Paranoia Rising Games brand. This one combines drafting and set collection for a fairly light game with a murder mystery theme. This one also had some great play-testing feedback and I'm excited about the direction it's going.

Stay tuned for more updates, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask in the comments below!

March Update: Events, Hidden Motives, Story Mode, and more!
about 1 year ago – Wed, Mar 15, 2023 at 01:31:40 PM

Happy March Vigilantes and Mercenaries!

Here in Toronto, we're almost through the cold and (very much) looking forward to warmer weather. We have some exciting updates to share on upcoming events and products!

I just returned from Decepta Con in Atlanta, GA a few weeks ago, where we held a 20-person Vigilante tournament! Players played one game of Shifting Allegiances, and based on points/tiebreakers, 6 players played 2 separate games of Fantasy Draft to determine the winner. Thanks to Werewolf ATL for hosting and for the great collaboration, and congratulations to Jacob, our winner!

We have a few upcoming events:

  • Breakout Con in Toronto (March 17-19, 2023) - Event sign-ups for Vigilante are full, but I'm scheduling an additional demo on the unofficial scheduler
  • Shuffle up and Spiel in Toronto (April 15, 2023) - We are pleased to sponsor this great event that combines curling and board games, and very much looking forward to demoing Vigilante!
  • Origins in Columbus (June 21-25, 2023) - We are returning to Origins this year in collaboration with Deceptively Social Gaming in the social deduction room!

Are you going to any of these events? Let us know in the comments below!

Vigilante: Hidden Motives is gearing up for Kickstarter release early this summer! Please sign up here to be notified upon launch.

Here is what has been recently completed:

  • Play-testing - Thanks to everyone that volunteered and got us through that final stretch!
  • Art - All art in the base game is completed
  • Component STL files and renders
  • Kickstarter video and ad videos
  • Manufacturer quotes

Here's a preview of the amazing infection tokens, produced by Mesa Game Lab for the expansion:

There are still some important tasks to complete before the launch of the campaign:

  • Updating freight forwarding/shipping rates and pricing out the games accordingly
  • Finalizing a new U.S./Canadian distribution partner (sadly, FunAgain Games is no longer in business)
  • New/Updated Kickstarter campaign sections - in progress
  • Rule book - in progress
  • Pre-marketing
  • Release of preview videos from content creators

We recently provided Jenders Gaming a copy of Vigilante with Hidden Motives - check out the preview below!

What would you like to know about Vigilante: Hidden Motives in the next update?

Vigilante: Story Mode is still deep in play-testing (my new prototype is in the mail). The game is already great, but at this point I'm working to minimize the amount of setup and upkeep between chapters. In my last iteration, I had some great breakthroughs that will streamline the mechanics of the game without detracting from the experience.

The art is about 90% complete and the major components are complete. If I'm satisfied with the latest prototype that the game is fully streamlined, I will be moving forward to blind play-testing for feedback on both gameplay and rules. I can't wait to get this out - this is my most ambitious project and I will be thrilled to be bringing the Vigilante universe to cooperative players and in particular to expand it to solo and 2-player counts.

This is the point where I would drop a teaser, but being a campaign game - I'm going to leave out any spoilers for now :-)

As a game designer, I am constantly creating new concepts. Some of those concepts are a perfect fit for Paranoia Rising Games - particularly anything with social deduction elements. Those that don't fit in that sphere will be put in front of other publishers. While not every concept comes to fruition, I am very excited about a few of my designs:

CATNIP Auction House will be launched by Tin Robot Games this summer and is a 3-10 player bidding game where each player is a cat, bidding on luxurious items! This is the most accessible game that I've designed to date, and it provides strategic depth and replayability with the different abilities on the items. Click here to check it out and pre-order a copy or try it out at Breakout Con this coming weekend!

Critter Quest (temporary name) combines deckbuilding with creature-collecting. Capture rare creatures to add to your deck, or evolve those in your deck into more powerful creatures! Prepare yourselves for player-to-player showdowns and earn enough points to be victorious! This game has undergone quite a bit of play-testing and gets more and more fun with every change. It isn't social deduction, so will be pitched to a better-suited publisher.

Urban Speed is a street-racing inspired game that combines social deduction and worker placement. One player is an undercover cop, trying to arrest racers. Players will upgrade their car, buy new cars, and enter their cars into races to gain cred... but be careful where you go; the most desirable locations have the highest risk of generating heat. This is the newest and least-tested game of mine, but has a ton of potential and is a perfect fit for the Paranoia Rising Games' brand.

Stay tuned for more updates, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask in the comments below!
