Strategy Tips, and a New Starter Hero Emerges from a Village full of Werewolves!
about 3 years ago – Sat, Apr 03, 2021 at 07:42:41 AM

We're 73% funded! The campaign is making great progress, and many of you have shared the project with your friends, in your board game groups - thank you!

We have some more exciting content to share today. Some of you that have played Tabletop Simulator may have already seen this new Starter Hero, but this is in fact the 13th in the game!

In Vigilante, there are many different strategies one can take to achieve their objective. In previous play-tests, it was much easier to grasp how Good players can win the game, while Evil players and Neutral players (in some cases) were more nuanced. Following some feedback from Bryan at Game Brigade, I decided to create reference cards to communicate those strategies and options, in a way that wouldn't seem so obvious.

Vigilante now includes 5 reference cards that give players tips on how to complete their objective. Here's a larger version of the card, for reference:

When you think social deduction, many think of Werewolf or Mafia. Over the past year, playing Zoom Werewolf has personally provided me with great entertainment and new friendships, and it has been fun watching our group evolve as people from all over the U.S., UK, and Canada got together on a weekly (or sometimes more frequent) basis. Werewolf ATL and the San Francisco group, as well as others, have provided many of us great routine and conversation in otherwise difficult times.

As soon as Werewolf ATL announced their annual Decepta Con was going virtual, and I was asked to moderate, I knew that we had to do something special for Vigilante... so, we ran special Vigilante-themed games using roles of characters in the game and ran a contest - one player would become a new hero!

I'm pleased to announce that one of the new friends I've made over the past year, Cookie, won the contest and will now forever be a Starter Hero in the game. Barbara Yaga, based on Baba Yaga of Slavic folklore, enters the city with the ability to heal one of your heroes and heal another player's hero.

With that, I'd like to again thank everyone following along with the campaign - stay tuned for more!

Fantastic Progress and Bonus Content
about 3 years ago – Thu, Apr 01, 2021 at 10:59:47 PM

We're now 67% funded! Thank you for the support.

Generally Kickstarter campaigns see increased traffic on the first and the last day of the campaign.  Based on the progress over the last two days, our funding goal is very much within reach. Please continue to spread the word to anyone that might have an interest in this type of game, and let's unlock some stretch goals!!!

Now, onto the more exciting stuff - bonus content!

Our reviewers have provided some great feedback on Vigilante, and lots of feedback of what they'd like to see! For example, Mark from Meeple Mountain provided some great feedback on the player screen that made the game text more intuitive. Both Bryan from Game Brigade and Bradly from Board Game Gumbo suggested that they would like to see more variability with Good and Evil Identities - the same variability that already exists with Neutral Identities!

Introducing... Advanced Identities!

Once you're familiar with the game and want some more depth to the secret missions, you can replace 3 Guardians (basic Good Identity) and 3 Assassins (basic Evil Identity) with the Attention-Seeker, Challenger, Collector, Influencer, Recruiter, and Sniper!

These identities are similar to the Guardian (Good players must jail a combined total of 7 villains per Good player) and the Assassin (Good players must fail their objective), but with a twist. Players may confidently walk into the end of the game with enough villains in their jail, only to find that their plan has been thwarted!

Let's introduce the new cast:

Attention-Seeker (Good): Gain +1 to your jailed villain total for each Hero with 7 or more remaining health on your team at the end of the game!

Challenger (Good): Each of your Lv. 1 Villains are only worth half (rounded up) when counting them at the end; however, Lv. 3 Villains are worth two apiece.

Collector (Evil): The Collector likes to collect Equipment and subtracts 1 villain from the Good players' total for every 3 Equipment in hand.

Influencer (Good): The Influencer combines the total of Good and Neutral players' jailed villains, and needs a combined total of 6 per Good and Neutral player. Figure out who the Neutral player is (if any), and work together!

Recruiter (Evil): The Recruiter wants to recruit Mercenaries from the Hero Market, or wants to convince other players to recruit them. For every 3 Mercenaries in the discard pile at the end of the game, subtract 1 villain from your opponents' total.

Sniper (Evil): The Sniper subtracts one Villain from the Good players' combined total for every 2 Good Heroes defeated. Use your opponent's Heroes as target practice and surprise them at the end of the game.

Thank you to Tony and Alex for helping with the brainstorming of ideas on these Identities! Please note that these are now included in Tabletop Simulator and the amazing Tim is hard at work in scripting the 'Advanced Identity' ruleset.

We know that this advanced variant will only further increase the replayability and tension in this game, and while we may not have unlocked any stretch goals, we're truly committed to making Vigilante the best it can be... and you deserve it!

By the way, I'll be interviewed on Board Game Binge at 6pm EST.  Check it out, and please don't hesitate to ask any questions!

Thank you,
